Dear Maithri,

I love it that we are all attracted to different aspects of the story. Like a house of mirrors, the myths reflect back who we are. I can see how that aspect of Orpheus's journey, to rescue his love in the depths of the underworld, enchanting the spirits with his songs, appeals to you. Me, I am stuck with WHY? What does it mean that Orpheus's head gets stored in the grotto sacred to his Nemesis, Dionysus? Did Apollo do Orpheus a favor by silencing him, like a friend performing an intervention on one who is out of control?

This is the beauty of the myth, all our insights are perfect for what we need to know!

May love create an empire of beauty in your myth!

What beauty you share with us my friend...

I've always loved the story of Orpheus and Eurydice...

There is something to be said for going into the underworld to rescue our beloved...

For walking into the night to sit with those whom we love,
and sing them our songs,

My warmest love to you and yours my sister,

Maithri

Hello Liara,

The power of love, in this case to go to hell and come back whole, is a miracle. There are so many lessons to be gleaned from this myth. We each receive what we need from studying it.

Thanks for your beautiful insights!

May love follow you always!

A beautiful story. The one lesson that stood out for me is that sometimes to allow someone to live we must accept that we do not possess them and that we must let go. For me, this is what the lesson was when he was not to look at his beloved for she would once again die.

Love certainly prompts human beings to push the limits they have imagined for themselves. This feeling also prompts people to step outside their comfort zones, expand their sense of acceptable or possible and redefine what is worthwhile. Great story you share here that provokes reflection. A person does not have to be familiar with opera to apprecaite diverse messages and lessons open in the story.
